Birth control lawyers are spreading the word about punitive action taken by the FDA against Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals regarding their advertising of Yaz as a treatment for premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

The birth control drug Yaz has been remarkably popular and successful for Bayer since it entered the market, but it has also been the focus of the FDA for advertising tactics that seem to stretch its applications. The ads under scrutiny follow a “We’re Not Gonna Take It” theme, and indicate that Yaz can combat common PMS symptoms such as anxiety and irritability.

Bayer received a letter from the FDA warning about the continued airing of these ads, tantamount to false advertising and misleading to consumers. The ads have since been pulled. Here is a link to the warning letter in PDF format from the FDA. Yaz Warning Letter PDF

Yaz is approved to treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a more severe and dramatic form of PMS. Women suffering from PMDD (3% – 8% of the population) experience some of the symptoms of PMS, but in a far more intense and affecting manner. PMDD is considered a mental disorder.

Though the symptoms of PMDD are similar to and, in some cases even identical to PMS, the FDA found that Bayer did not adequately distinguish between PMS and PMDD in its advertisements, leading consumers to believe that Yaz could be used to treat the far-more-common PMS, rather than PMDD.

If you or a loved one have been adversely affected by Yaz or false advertising by Bayer Healthcare, contact on of our Yaz birth control lawyers today by using our contact form or calling us at: 866-843-7367

All “combined hormone” birth control drugs (Yaz or any birth control drug that contains both estrogen and progestin) carry an increased risk of harmful blood clots. This includes “The Pill” and all similar drugs that have come since.

Blood clotting is an essential characteristic for bodily health and prevents bleeding to death from even small wounds. Blood clots may form on the surface of the body or internally, within damaged blood vessels or organs.

When blood clots form unnecessarily, grave risks result. Blood clots may form within blood vessels and travel to other parts of the body, where they may block blood flow, cutting off oxygen and nutrients. Yaz birth control blood clots may cause damage in any part of the body, but the three most dangerous are:

• Heart, which may cause heart attack
• Lungs, which may cause pulmonary embolism
• Brain, which may cause stroke

Each of these conditions may cause severe damage or even death. To minimize the risk of Yaz birth control blood clots, women should not smoke while taking Yaz. Women using Yaz should also be familiar with the signs and symptoms of blood clots: sudden vision changes, weakness or numbness, difficulty speaking or understanding speech, shortness of breath, and chronic dizziness or headache.

Birth control lawyers are attempting to spread the word about the risks of Yaz. Birth control blood clots are among the most severe risks for women taking Yaz. For more information about Yaz birth control blood clots, speak with your physician.

If you or a loved one has been adversely affected by the use of Yaz, contact our Yaz Birth Control Lawyers via our contact form or by calling us at: 866-843-7367

Compared to women who don’t use birth control medications, women who take Yaz birth control are at a higher risk of heart attack. This risk is further increased by other factors such as a history of heart disease, obesity, age (over 35), and smoking. Such risk factors interact with one another exponentially.

Though it is generally considered an affliction of men, women experience heart attacks. Men are at a higher risk for heart attacks (myocardial infarction), but women are at risk as well and should know the signs and symptoms, particularly if they are at greater risk, such as women taking Yaz.

Yaz is a combined-hormone birth control drug, meaning that it contains two synthetic hormones affecting the fertility cycle to prevent pregnancy. Use of these birth control drugs has been shown to increase the risk of various side effects, including some serious effects in the circulatory system: heart attack, stroke, blood clot, and more. For these reasons, the makers of Yaz, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, have released guidelines for its use and discourage women with a history of heart attack, heart disease or stroke, angina, or blood clots from taking Yaz.

For both men and women, the most common sign of heart attack is chest discomfort or pain. This sign should always be investigated by a healthcare professional. Additionally, Yaz birth control users should watch out for discomfort in other parts of the body, cold sweats, shortness of breath, feeling faint or lightheaded, and nausea.

While discomfort or pain in the chest is the most common sign of heart attack for both men and women, women are more likely to experience other or additional symptoms, such as those listed above, particularly pain in other parts of the body such as the jaw or arm. Suspected heart attack symptoms should always be check out by a professional.

If you or a loved one have suffered injury through the use of Yaz, you may be entitled to restitution and compensation. Investigate your Yaz lawsuit case by contacting one of our Yaz heart attack lawyers at 866-843-7367 or just use our contact form.

Both Yaz and Yasmin, birth control drugs produced by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, are “combined hormone” drugs. “Combined hormone” drugs are one category of birth control drugs. These types of birth control drugs contain two hormones, estrogen and progesterone. These hormones are synthetic and may be of various compositions.

Both Yaz and Yasmin contain estradiol (synthetic estrogen) and drosperinone (synthetic progesterone). The difference between the drugs is in the amount of estradiol: Yasmin contains a larger dose of estradiol than Yaz. Additionally, Yasmin has a full week (7 days) of placebo pills for each month of doses, Yaz only contains four placebo pills. This is considered by some to be better protection against pregnancy.

Some women feel that Yaz more effectively addresses menstrual symptoms. It is important to note that neither Yaz nor Yasmin are approved by the FDA to treat run-of-the-mill PMS symptoms, though they are approved to treat the more severe symptoms of PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder).

Yaz entered the market after Yasmin and many women who experienced various levels of side effects switched, with the help of their doctors, to Yaz. Even the small differences between the two drugs can lead to different experiences for different women.

If you or a loved one have experienced adverse effects from the use of Yaz or Yasmin or the marketing employed by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, contact a Yaz birth control lawyer today.

In 2008, the birth control drug, Yaz, was enjoying unprecedented popularity and commercial success. In the fall of that year, the producer of Yaz, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, received a letter from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning them about their current advertisements for Yaz.

According to the FDA, the television ads implied too strongly that Yaz may be used as a treatment for acne. This letter was the beginning of a series of actions by the FDA an bad publicity for Yaz that exposed overstated effects and possible intentional deception of consumers.

While it was true that at the time of the ads Yaz was in some cases used to treat acne, the FDA stated that the advertising employed by Bayer implied that Yaz was appropriate for the broad treatment of general acne conditions.

Birth control lawyers have recognized this as an instance of fraudulent advertising, expanding the legitimate effects of Yaz into fantasy in the hopes of attracting even more customers. This is a violation of the duty of companies to consumers in the marketplace.

If you or a loved one has been affected by the use of Yaz, contact a Yaz birth control lawyer today by using our contact form or you can call 866-843-7367.

Yaz Birth Control Lawyers are working for restitution and justice for women injured through the use of brand name birth control medicine sold under the names Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella. Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella are designed to prevent pregnancy, and are also approved for treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and, in some cases, are used to treat acne. The effectiveness of Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella as birth control agents, as well as their additional applications have lead to remarkable popularity and commercial success. However, Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella have been found to cause very significant, even severe side effects in some women, ranging from headaches to heart attacks. Our Yaz Birth Control Attorneys have recognized the dark side of these “wonder drugs” and are working to help effected women fight back.

Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella are “combined-hormone” drugs, meaning that they contain two hormones: estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and progestin (drospirenone). While these drugs are not the only combined-hormone birth control drugs on the market, they are by far the most popular.

The maker of these drugs, Baxter Healthcare, was found the the FDA to be downplaying the very significant potential side effects of using Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella. More mild side effects range from headaches and weight gain to vaginal discharge, bleeding or yeast infections. Other, far more serious conditions have also been associated with use of Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella. These include heart attack, pulmonary embolism, stroke, blood clots, kidney failure, liver damage, migraine headaches, hypertension and more. The risk of developing these conditions through the use of these products is compounded by a smoking habit and/or age. Usage warnings by Baxter Healthcare for Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella are extensive, and are best understood with the help of a Yaz birth control lawyer.

Knowing the signs and symptoms of potentially serious side effects from the use of Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella can make the difference for yourself or a family member. Leg cramps and swelling, shortness of breath, sharp chest or abdominal pains, coughing up blood, yellowing of the eyes or skin, heaviness in the chest, difficulty with breathing or swallowing, arm or leg weakness or numbness, and unexplained rashes are but a few of the potential signs. If you or a family member is a user of Yaz, Yasmin, or Ocella and begins to experience any of these symptoms, contact your physician or health care professional immediately.

Women across the country suffering injury from the use of Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella can take solace in the fact that birth control lawyers have begun working together. Isolated cases have grown into class action suits as the true depth and breadth of the problems with Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella are recognized. If you or a loved one has been injured in the use of Yas, Yasmin, or Ocella, your interests are best served by an experienced Yaz birth control attorney law firm.
