Advertising Yaz as PMS Treatment Earns Bayer Reprimand from FDA

By admin

Birth control lawyers are spreading the word about punitive action taken by the FDA against Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals regarding their advertising of Yaz as a treatment for premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

The birth control drug Yaz has been remarkably popular and successful for Bayer since it entered the market, but it has also been the focus of the FDA for advertising tactics that seem to stretch its applications. The ads under scrutiny follow a “We’re Not Gonna Take It” theme, and indicate that Yaz can combat common PMS symptoms such as anxiety and irritability. Read more

What complications can come from blood clots caused by Yaz?

By admin

All “combined hormone” birth control drugs (Yaz or any birth control drug that contains both estrogen and progestin) carry an increased risk of harmful blood clots. This includes “The Pill” and all similar drugs that have come since.

Blood clotting is an essential characteristic for bodily health and prevents bleeding to death from even small wounds. Blood clots may form on the surface of the body or internally, within damaged blood vessels or organs.

When blood clots form unnecessarily, grave risks result. Blood clots may form within blood vessels and travel to other parts of the body, where they may block blood flow, cutting off oxygen and nutrients. Yaz birth control blood clots may cause damage in any part of the body, but the three most dangerous are:

•    Heart, which may cause heart attack
•    Lungs, which may cause pulmonary embolism
•    Brain, which may cause stroke

Each of these conditions may cause severe damage or even death. To minimize the risk of Yaz birth control blood clots, women should not smoke while taking Yaz. Women using Yaz should also be familiar with the signs and symptoms of blood clots: sudden vision changes, weakness or numbness, difficulty speaking or understanding speech, shortness of breath, and chronic dizziness or headache.

Birth control lawyers are attempting to spread the word about the risks of Yaz. Birth control blood clots are among the most severe risks for women taking Yaz. For more information about Yaz birth control blood clots, speak with your physician.

What are the signs of a Yaz birth control heart attack?

By admin

Compared to women who don’t use birth control medications, women who take Yaz birth control are at a higher risk of heart attack. This risk is further increased by other factors such as a history of heart disease, obesity, age (over 35), and smoking. Such risk factors interact with one another exponentially.

Though it is generally considered an affliction of men, women experience heart attacks. Men are at a higher risk for heart attacks (myocardial infarction), but women are at risk as well and should know the signs and symptoms, particularly if they are at greater risk, such as women taking Yaz. The Differences Between Yaz and Yasmin

By admin

Both Yaz and Yasmin, birth control drugs produced by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, are “combined hormone” drugs. “Combined hormone” drugs are one category of birth control drugs. These types of birth control drugs contain two hormones, estrogen and progesterone. These hormones are synthetic and may be of various compositions.

Both Yaz and Yasmin contain estradiol (synthetic estrogen) and drosperinone (synthetic progesterone). The difference between the drugs is in the amount of estradiol: Yasmin contains a larger dose of estradiol than Yaz. Additionally Read more

FDA comes down on Bayer for Advertising Yaz as Acne Drug

By admin

In 2008, the birth control drug, Yaz, was enjoying unprecedented popularity and commercial success. In the fall of that year, the producer of Yaz, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, received a letter from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning them about their current advertisements for Yaz.

According to the FDA, the television ads implied too strongly that Yaz may be used as a treatment for acne. This letter was the beginning of a series of actions by the FDA an bad publicity for Yaz that exposed overstated effects and possible intentional deception of consumers.

While it was true that at the time of the ads Yaz was in some cases used to treat acne, the FDA stated that the advertising employed by Bayer  implied that Yaz was appropriate for the broad treatment of general acne conditions.

Birth control lawyers have recognized this as an instance of fraudulent advertising, expanding the legitimate effects of Yaz into fantasy in the hopes of attracting even more customers. This is a violation of the duty of companies to consumers in the marketplace.

If you or a loved one has been affected by the use of Yaz, contact a Yaz birth control lawyer today by using our contact form or you can call 866-843-7367.
